Dumfries and Galloway Standard's 2020 Christmas Toy Appeal enters its final week

There is less than a week left to drop off a gift for a vulnerable child at one of our five collection points in Dumfries.

And we are grateful to everyone whose generosity is making the Dumfries and Galloway Standard Christmas Toy Appeal happen during this incredibly difficult time of a worldwide pandemic.

We are working hard to make sure the hundreds of children in need on our agency lists are given a gift to unwrap on Christmas morning.

And our thanks go to the staff at the Amey depot on Dumfries’ Annan Road who donated bags full of toys.
You have until next Monday to donate toys, sweet treats and gift vouchers for vulnerable children – babies right through to teenagers – referred to us by the local agencies.

And we are running short of gifts for six, eight, nine and 10-year-olds boys and girls.

Gifts can be dropped off at one of our five collection points which include Morrisons supermarket in Dumfries, Tesco Extra at Cuckoo Bridge and Tesco at the Peel Centre.

Look out for our posters for the collection points.

They include the Nationwide Building Society in Church Square  between 9am and 2pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 10am to 2pm on Wednesdays.

Marks and Spencer has its collection point, complete with tags, at the Christmas tree near the coffee shop.

Please pick a tag from the branches, buy an appropriate gift for the child on it and leave in the baskets.

It is essential this year to make sure:
■ No second hand toys
■ Toys must be new, unused and sealed, boxed or tagged
■ Please do not wrap toys in Christmas paper
We are aware that, under the circumstances, supporters may want to make a cash donation this year rather than have to shop for a toy.

You can make a cash donation into our bank account at the Bank of Scotland in Dumfries either in branch or online via
your own bank or building society.

The Standard Toy Appeal account number is 10856666 and the sort code is 80-22-60.

Our office is closed so please do not take toys there or post us donations.

  ■ Please get in touch if you are an organisation, group or business with donations and we’d welcome any photographs of yourselves with toys or cheques for the appeal.
