The region’s Stagecoach West employees have accepted a “significantly improved” pay offer bringing an end to the dispute which threatened strike disruption for bus users.
Around 400 Unite members including drivers, engineering staff, administrative workers, and cleaners across the region, as well as at Ardrossan, Ayr and Kilmarnock, accepted the deal after a ballot on Monday.
Stagecoach West Scotland workers had previously backed taking strike action in the pay dispute by 92 per cent in a 73.4 per cent ballot turnout.
Details of the deal have not been made public by either Unite or Stagecoach.
Union official Siobhan McCready said: “Unite members in Stagecoach West Scotland have accepted a significantly improved pay offer. We’re satisfied that our members have got a fair and decent pay deal which is what we aspired to all along without the need for strike action.
“It shouldn’t have taken several pay offers to get to this point but this now brings the dispute to a close. The message is clear for workers in the bus industry.
Fiona Doherty, managing director for Stagecoach West Scotland, said: “We’re very proud of our team who do a fantastic job in delivering vital transport connections for our communities. We are pleased to have reached an agreement with our local trade union representatives that represents a good deal for our employees in West Scotland and at the same time will help to secure the long-term sustainability of the local bus network.”
