A snooker club is looking for new members to enjoy their new-look hall.
The tables at Knockvennie Hall near Corsock have been recovered, while the building has been given a refurbishment.
Now the club is holding a special open day this weekend with people of all ages and experiences welcome to come along.
Committee chairman, Andrew Pyle, said: “The work was partly self financed from people paying to play on the tables and we’ve had some small windfarm grants in previous years. At the moment there’s about a dozen men and women who play regularly but we don’t have any youngsters.
“We’re planning an open afternoon so people can visit the hall and play a frame, or have a go if they’re novices, and members will be available to explain how the hall works.
“It’s available for people to play any time of the day, any day of the week.
“There are certain keyholders – people who want to have a key pay for that privilege and if they don’t want that, they can arrange with the key holder to open up for them.”
The hall is a refurbished wartime Nissen hut, brought to the area from Stranraer around 1946.
It was badly damaged by floods at New Year in 2016 but was repaired by the hall committee of the time.
The focus is now on snooker and other games, with Andrew describing it as “a village hall without a village” as the nearby villages have their own halls.
In 2018, four-time snooker world champion John Higgins popped in for a few frames with former Scottish pro Marcus Campbell as they opened the new-look facility
During coronavirus lockdowns, members volunteered – along with some professional help and finance from Blackcraig Windfarm – to carry out work to the hall.
New wiring, lighting, heating and insulation have been installed, the interior reclad and the kitchen and washrooms redecorated.
And in December, both tables were professionally recovered by Blackball Tables of Dunfermline, with a first-class playing facility now on offer for the community to enjoy.
Saturday’s open day will take place from 1.30pm to 4pm with everyone welcome to come along to see the facility, play some snooker and chat to members.
