Dumfries and Galloway sees first coronavirus deaths in nearly a month in week ending January 10

Dumfries and Galloway has seen its first coronavirus deaths in nearly a month.

The latest figures from National Records of Scotland reveal there were four deaths in the week ending January 10.

They are the first recorded in the region since the week ending December 13.

The NRS data is compiled based on the number of cases where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate. There have now been 83 deaths in Dumfries and Galloway by that method.

There were 384 coronavirus deaths across Scotland in the week ending January - nearly 200 more than the previous week. The total number now sits at 7,074.

This is different to the figures First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announces in her daily briefing as that is based on the number of people to have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.

As of yesterday, there had been 5,023 deaths in Scotland using that measure.
