Dumfries and Galloway schools to remain closed for all of January 2021

Schools across Dumfries and Galloway will remain closed during January.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced new coronavirus restrictions due to a huge increase in cases.

The new measures will come into force tonight and include a legally enforceable requirement for people to stay at home unless they require to leave for essential purposes.

People will also be required to work from home unless that is not possible.

There will be no limit on how much outdoor exercise people can do but there will be a maximum of two people from two households meeting outside.

And in a move that she described as the “most difficult of all”, schools across mainland Scotland will remain shut until at least February 1, except vulnerable pupils and children of key workers .

That situation will be reviewed on January 18, with the other restrictions remaining in force for the rest of the month.

Remote learning is due to begin on January 11.
