Dumfries and Galloway Sands hold outdoor Christmas service in Dock Park

A special outdoor Christmas service was held at the bandstand in Dumfries’ Dock Park on Sunday, organised by Dumfries and Galloway Sands.

The still birth and neonatal death charity’s committee decided against its usual festive service within Crichton Church because of the ongoing concerns relating to Covid-19 and decided an open air event would be best.

The service was led by Jean Martindale and Dumfries Town Band performed. Befrienders were on hand for anyone needing a chat.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “Despite the cold temperatures, we were blown away by how many people turned out for the service and it goes to show just how many people find this service so special and comforting. Thank you all for coming along and supporting us.”

They also thanked “Carla for her personal and touching words for the reading,” and Alice Stevenson for donating handmade Christmas decorations, as well as Tesco Peel Centre for a cash donation.

Sands supports anyone in Dumfries and Galloway affected by the death of a baby and promotes research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.
