Dumfries and Galloway residents support the Black Lives Matter campaign with a protest in Dumfries on Sunday

Dumfries and Galloway residents showed their support for the Black Lives Matter campaign at the weekend.

Hundreds of people took to Dumfries High Street in a demonstration which was also planned to ensure social distancing was adhered to.

The aim of Sunday’s protest was to stand up to racial inequality in the UK and around the world and originated from America after the death of George Floyd following his arrest by police.

Members of the community of Dumfries spoke to the crowd before taking a knee.

Organisers marked out crosses for people to stand on to ensure they socially distanced and apart from one man shouting abuse, the event passed without incident.
