Residents living on a pothole plagued road have taken matters into their own hands to warn other drivers of the dangers ahead.
Despite two years of constant complaints to the council, the crater-strewn U63a Springfield to Gilmourpark route near Lochmaben hasn’t been fixed.
Fed-up Bryan Woods has now had a sign specially made telling drivers what to expect.
It warns: “Remove false teeth! Tighten bra straps! Apply a Tena pad!
“This road is ‘maintained’ by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
“Please help the residents by reporting road condition and damages to your vehicle by scanning QR code”.
Mr Woods, 72, lives in one of the eight homes on the road.
He said: “It’s very sad that it’s got to the stage where I had to have this sign made but we don’t know what else we can do to spur the council into action.
“We’ve been on their case for two years with constant complaints and still nothing has been done. Every time any of us email the council, we get a response back saying they are looking into it.
“Then we get told to stop reporting the potholes because they already know about them. The sign is another attempt to try and get a reaction from the council. It’s on private land so can’t be removed and it will be staying put until the road is sorted.”
Mr Woods and other residents attempted to fill the potholes in themselves after damage was caused to cars.
He said: “It’s so bad that I don’t ask anyone to come and visit anymore because I’m so embarrassed by the state of the road.
“Enough is enough now. We’re fed up reporting it.
“Something needs to be done.”
Annandale North Councillor Adam Wilson is also pushing for the road to be repaired.
He said: “I travel on that road on a very regular basis and it is as bad as the residents claim.
“Last September, I walked the road and counted every single pothole before reporting it.
“Ater seeing the sign that’s been put it for myself, I’ve raised the issue again with council officers.”
