A nature reserve manager is calling on dog owners to “act responsibly” and clean up after their pets.
Jim Rae revealed that he had to pick up 28 patches of dog dirt along a one kilometre stretch of path at Eskrigg during one morning this week.
He posted a picture of the bags of dog poo he had collected on Facebook with the message: “I wish more dog owners would act responsibly.”
Disgusted followers agreed, with one woman responding: “What a horrible job to have had to pick all of this up. There is absolutely no need to do this. Dog owners should take the responsibility to take their mess home with them.”
Another added: “Absolutely disgusting. People just don’t care. Why can’t they do the right thing by taking it home or putting it in a bin instead of leaving it for someone else to get rid of?”
Gayle Woods wrote: “Disgraceful and disgusting. After all you do as well to make the place lovely for people and their dogs.”
On the Dumfries and Galloway Council website it states: “Dog owners have a responsibility to ensure that their dogs are not a nuisance. Our Community Safety Team is authorised to issue a fixed penalty for dog fouling offences.
“Dog mess is unpleasant and can have significant health risks.”
Members of the public can report dog fouling to the council by calling 030 33 33 3000 or by emailing communitysafetyteam@dumgal.gov.uk
