Dumfries and Galloway household waste recycling centres to remain open during latest coronavirus lockdown

All of the region’s household waste recycling centres are to remain open during lockdown.

Dumfries and Galloway Council said it will continue with its pre-booking system and staff will keep handrails sanitised but, due to guidelines, can’t offer unloading help.

The booking system means a full recycling service can be provided while ensuring social distancing can be safely managed on the sites.

To book a ten-minute slot go online at: https://crowd.in/ms5N5q or call 030 33 33 3000.

The council said that most vehicles are permitted at the sites and residents can also attend via public transport, bicycle or on foot.

However, they can’t accommodate larger plant vehicles and tractors to dispose of household waste.

Loose waste such as rubble and soil in a trailer must be bagged.

It may also be possible to pick up free plastic recycling boxes, to store glass bottles and jars, while on a booked visit to a household waste recycling centre – with a three-box limit per household.
