Dumfries and Galloway hotels welcome holiday makers back as coronvirus lockdown easing continues

Holidaymakers began heading back to hotels across Dumfries and Galloway this week.

The latest easing of coronavirus lockdown measures kicked in on Wednesday, with hotels, B&Bs and other holiday accommodation now allowed to accept guests.

The Station Hotel in Dumfries is among those expecting plenty of visitors in the coming days and weeks.

General manager Dawn Archibald said: “We had half a dozen coming in on Wednesday and another half a dozen before the weekend.

“It’s busier from Monday and it’s starting to pick up.

“We had a few deals on the It Is On website that people have booked through as well as some of our regular customers.

“We’re all ready to go and are glad to be back.

“It’s been unsettling. It’s been very strange not to see people or greet people.”

VisitScotland joined forces with other national tourism bodies to introduce the We’re Good to Go scheme, showing that business meet strict criteria aimed at tackling coronavirus.

Dawn said: “We have sanitiser stations set up throughout the hotel. All the rooms are available and have all been cleaned.

“The staff have all been trained and we have social distancing measures in place.”

While Wednesday was the first time hotels were able to welcome guests, the region’s holiday parks have been allowed to open since July 3 providing shared facilities remained closed.

Wednesday also saw the return of indoor seating areas at pubs and restaurants. Only those businesses with outdoor areas such as beer gardens were allowed to reopen on July 6.

Hairdressers and barbers are also back, places of worship can hold services and museums, galleries, cinemas, monuments and libraries are also able to welcome customers.

All must follow guidelines and regulations related to hygiene and social distancing.
