Dumfries and Galloway curlers to represent Scotland in Men's World Curling Championships

Kirkgunzeon curler Grant Hardie will represent Scotland on the world stage next month.

He is part of Team Mouat, who has been chosen to take part in the Men’s World Curling Championships for the fourth year running.

Joining Grant and skip Bruce Mouat will be Stranraer pair Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan. Dumfries' Ross Whyte will be fifth man.

The championships will take place at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary, Canada between April 3 and 11.

And there is an extra incentive with the top six finishers from the 14-team event making it through to next year’s Winter Olympics.

Team Mouat have dominated Scottish curling in the last few years and have won every top level event in Scotland since the beginning of last year, including five domestic National Curling Academy events.

They had been due to curl on home ice last year before the world championships in Glasgow were cancelled due to the coronavirus.

This will be the first time they have competed on the international stage for more than a year.

They will enter a special bubble in Calgary for five weeks, with the only time they leave isolation in their hotel being when they head to the ice rink to compete.
