Dumfries and Galloway curlers take third successive Grand Slam of Curling title

Dumfries and Galloway curlers have won a third successive Grand Slam of Curling.

Grant Hardie of Kirkgunzeon and Stranraer pair Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jr, along with skip Bruce Mouat, lifted the Masters title in Canada on Sunday night.

It came on the back of their successes in the Champions Cup and Players’ Championship at the end of last season.

Team Mouat – who will represent Team GB at the Winter Olympics next year – kicked off their campaign at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex in Oakville with a 7-3 win over Team Ruohonen.

That was followed up by wins over Team Dunstone and Team Bottcher to make the quarter-finals.

And a familiar face awaited them, with their opponents skipped by Dumfries’ Ross Whyte.

In the end, it was Team Mouat who triumphed 4-2 to set-up a semi-final rematch against Team Bottcher, who they saw off 6-4.

That set up Sunday’s final against the team skipped by Brad Jacobs – the last skip to win three Grand Glam titles in a row.

And it was the Scots who emerged on top, taking a 7-5 win to lift the trophy.

And there was more good news when it was revealed they will represent Scotland at next month’s European Championships in Norway – the first time the rink has appeared in the tournament since 2018.

Dumfries’ Ross Whyte will join them as alternate, the same role he will fulfil at next year’s Winter Olympics.
