Dumfries and Galloway curlers ready to take on the world

Curlers from Dumfries and Galloway will represent Scotland on the international stage this week in Canada.

Kikrgunzeon’s Grant Hardie and the Stranraer duo of Hammy McMillan and Bobby Lammie have flown out to Ottawa in Ontario for the World Men’s Curling Championship 2023.

Edinburgh player Bruce Mouat will lead the rink in the tournament which starts on Saturday and runs until Sunday, April 9.

Scotland start off their tournament with a match against Italy on Saturday afternoon before a double header against Turkey and Sweden on Sunday afternoon and evening.

Games against Germany, the United States, Switzerland, Japan, Korea, Norway, Canada, the Czech Republic and New Zealand will complete the round robin format of the competition in the TD Place Arena.

Following round-robin play, the top six teams will advance to the play-offs. The first and second ranked teams will receive byes to the semi-finals, while the third, fourth, fifth and sixth ranked teams will compete in the qualification games for the semi-finals. The third ranked team will play the sixth, while fourth and fifth ranked teams will meet. The winners of these games will advance to the semi-finals.
