Dumfries and Galloway Council recouped the cost of the superschool closure fiasco from the contractor.
It was revealed this week that the authority was not left out of pocket over the shutdown of the £28 million North West Community Campus on safety grounds.
And due to cash clawback clauses in the building contract, it settled the matter without the need for legal action.
The authority was compensated for the additional costs associated with the closure when pupils had to be moved out of the showpiece school in Dumfries.
At the time, the council had to shell out to accommodate secondary pupils at schools elsewhere and had “substantial” costs involved in transporting the youngsters.
The “good news” was welcomed by Tory councillor Graham Bell whose ward takes in the school which opened in August 2018 but was quickly closed down.
He said: “We know there were a lot of transport costs associated with it at the time.
“This is good news, at the least the council has the upper hand this time.”
The terms of the authority’s agreement with contractor Graham allowed them to cough up less than they owed to clawback the costs outlaid to correct the mess created when the campus had to be closed.
Pupils were only in the school for a matter of weeks following its unveiling when education chiefs were forced to pull the plug on safety grounds.
One pupil was struck by a smart board which fell from a wall during one of a string of incidents.
The site did not reopen until April 2019, leaving council bosses scrambling to make other provision for the youngsters.
Other school sites mothballed when the campus opened had to be recommissioned to accommodate displaced pupils.
The council has previously declined to offer any details of who would foot the bill.
But in response to a Freedom of Information request submitted by the BBC, the authority this week confirmed: “Due to the council issuing pay less notices through the normal certification and payment mechanism, the closure of North West Community Campus has not incurred any cost to the council.”
