Dumfries and Galloway coronavius figures for Monday, December 21

A further 26 people tested positive for coronavirus in Dumfries and Galloway over the weekend.

There was one new case on Saturday and a further 10 on Sunday, with 15 today.

That takes the number of cases in the region since the start of the pandemic to 1,273. There have been 130 cases in December with 60 in the past week.

Dumfries and Galloway, like the rest of mainland Scotland, will enter level four of the Scottish Government's coronavirus restriction system on Boxing Day.

The move was made amid fears over the rapid spread of a new strain of the virus.

It means pubs, restaurants and non-essential shops must close.

There has also been a tightening on the rules over Christmas, with people now only allowed to meet on Christmas Day itself and travel to other parts of the UK banned.

In Scotland, there were 1,504 new cases today, partly down to a processing backlog. It takes the national total since the pandemic to 113,050.

There are 1,078 peple in hospital with 59 in intensive care.
