The region has seen more new coronavirus cases in the past three days than it had in the previous week.
A further four cases were confirmed today, taking the total since the pandemic began to 4,129.
Although there was only one new case on Monday, since then there have been a further 23, with Tuesday’s figure of 10 the highest in a single day for more than a month.
However, the same day the number of people in hospital dipped below five for the first time this year.
Figures from NHS Dumfries and Galloway showed that in the week ending March 21, there were 16 new cases – down from 32 the previous week.
A total of 79 close contacts were advised to self-isolate, down from 1771.
Interim director of public health Valerie White said: “While it is great to see levels remaining low in Dumfries and Galloway we must not be complacent, and we need to work together to keep infection rates low.”
More than 60 per cent of the region's adult population have now received their first coronavirus vaccination, with around 10 per cent having received their second.
