Dumfries and Galloway coronavirus update for Monday, February 22

A further 29 people in Dumfries and Galloway have tested positive for coronavirus over the course of the weekend.

It takes the total number of cases in the region since the pandemic began to 3,993.

There were 18 new cases on Saturday, three on Sunday and a further eight today.

There are currently 17 people in hospital with five in intensive care.

Across Scotland, there were 715 new cases today, taking the pandemic’s total to 198,184.

There are currently 1,141 patients in hospital across the country, with 99 in intensive care.

A total of 1,445,488 people have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccination, with 1,863 having received their second.

Today saw children in primaries one, two and three return to classes for the first time since the Christmas holidays.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is due to reveal tomorrow how lockdown restrictions will be lifted.
