Dumfries and Galloway coronavirus stats for Wednesday, October 21

The number of people in Dumfries and Galloway to have tested positive for coronavirus since the start of the pandemic now sits at 714.

A further 16 positive cases were confirmed today.

It means there have been 199 cases in the past seven days and 303 since the start of October.

Yesterday, National Clinical Director Professor Jason Leitch revealed that health officials are keeping a "very, very close eye" on Dumfries and Galloway.

Across Scotland, there have been a further 1,739 cases today, taking the national total to 50,903. Part of the latest increase is due to a catchup from a testing backlog.

873 people are in hospital, with 73 in intensive care.

An additional 28 people have died, taking the Scottish tally to 2,653.

Restrictions covering pubs, restaurants and cafes are set to be in force for a further week.

As a result, they will still only be allowed to serve non-alcoholic drinks indoors until 6pm and alcohol outside until 10pm.

The restrictions were due to expire on Monday but have been extended until November 2, when a new tiered system of restrictions is expected to be introduced.
