Dumfries and Galloway coronavirus figures for Wednesday, December 9

A further nine people have tested positive for coronavirus in Dumfries and Galloway in the past 24 hours.

It takes the number of positive cases in the region since the start of the pandemic to 1,194.

51 of those cases have been in December. There were 271 cases in November and 461 in October.

The figures also show there are currently seven people in the region's hospital being treated for coronavirus.

Dumfries and Galloway is set to enter level one of the Scottish Government's coronavirus restriction system on Friday evening, with a mass vaccination programme getting under way yesterday.

Across the country, a further 897 positive tests were confirmed today, taking the total to 102,372.

There are 972 patients in hospital - down 11 from yesterday - with 50 in intensive care, seven less than Tuesday.

A further 39 people have died, taking the total to 3,989.
