Dumfries and Galloway coronavirus figures for Wednesday, December 30

A further 92 people in Dumfries and Galloway have tested positive for coronavirus.

It takes the total since the start of the pandemic to 1,591 and comes on the back of 106 confirmed cases yesterday.

The significant increase is due to an outbreak in Wigtownshire involving the highly transmissible B.1.1.7 variant.

Health board officials revealed yesterday there had been 221 positive cases in the district since December 9, with 171 of those since Christmas Eve.

There are also concerns around cases in the lower Annandale area.

In Scotland today, there were a further 2,045 positive cases, taking the national total to 124,831.

There are 1,133 people in hospital with 69 in intensive care.

A further 43 people have died, taking the figure to 4,510.
