Dumfries and Galloway coronavirus figures for September 21 as new restrictions expected within days

A further four people have tested positive for coronavirus in Dumfries and Galloway.

The number of positive tests across the region since the start of the pandemic now stands at 354.

That includes 23 positive tests in the past week.

In the past 24 hours, there were 255 new cases across Scotland, taking the pandemic total to 24,627.

Further restrictions are set to be put in place across the country in the next couple of days in a bid to stem the increase.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said discussions are ongoing with a decision on what measures are put in place “very close”.

She said: “The longer we wait to introduce these measures, the longer these measures are likely to be in place.”

The First Minister added: “This is a serious moment again for the country. We cannot allow cases to continue rising.”
