Dumfries and Galloway coronavirus figures for Monday, October 12

Dumfries and Galloway has seen a significant rise in the number of coronavirus cases over the past few days.

The number of positive tests since the start of the pandemic now sits at 556, up 72 from the Friday figure of 484.

Twenty-six new cases were reported on Saturday with a further 37 on Sunday – the highest single day rise since daily figures began being issued in March.

A further nine new cases were confirmed on Monday.

In Scotland, 961 new cases were revealed on Monday, with the national total since the start of the pandemic now just under 40,000.

There are 487 people in hospital – up 38 from Sunday - with 36 being treated in intensive care.

Six deaths have been reported since Sunday, with the total now at 2,550.
