Dumfries and Galloway coronavirus figures for Monday, December 14

Dumfries and Galloway saw a further nine new coronavirus over the weekend.

There were five cases on Saturday with two on Sunday and the same number today.

It takes the total in the region since the start of the pandemic to 1,213.

Of that figure, 70 have been in December. There are currently less than five people in the region’s hospitals being treated for Covid-19.

On Friday night, the region moved into level one of the Scottish Government’s coronavirus restriction system.

It means eight people from up to three households can now meet outside, although meeting inside homes is still banned.

And pubs and restaurants can now open longer, with food no longer a requirement if someone wants to enjoy an alcoholic drink.

Last week also saw the start of a mass vaccination programme against coronavirus.

Across Scotland, a further 734 new cases were announced today, taking the total to 106,904.

There are currently 1,012 people in hospital and 46 in intensive care.

Forty-one deaths have been registered since Friday, taking the total to 4,111.
