Dumfries and Galloway brothers to take on Great North Run for forces charity

Five brothers are set to take on UK’s biggest half marathon for a charity close to their hears.

Creetown FC defender Rab Joe Paisley will be joined by brothers Jon, Dee, Alan and James on the Great North Run start line in Newcastle later this month.

They have formed Team Paisley in a bid to raise money for forces charity Walking With The Wounded (WWTW).

Their fundraising page states: “Four of us have all served within the British Army with various operational tours including the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan, Northern Ireland and the Balkans and have witnessed at first hand some of the issues brought about from service life both personally and within our friends network.

“WWTW supports disadvantaged veterans who have served in the armed forces and their families, empowering them to regain their independence, thrive and contribute in our communities.

“They have adapted and continue to support our ex-services community during this difficult time. Recently, having a record number of referrals for mental health not only highlights the sad situation of how many veterans are suffering but shows the amazing work being carried out by the charity.”

The Great North Run takes place on Sunday, September 11. To sponsor Team Paisley, visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/5-4-3-2-1TeamPaisley
