Dumfries and Galloway athlete Jo Muir chosen to represent Team GB at Tokyo Olympics

Jo Muir has been chosen to represent Team GB in the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The Haugh of Urr athlete is one of a four-strong contingent who will compete in the modern pentathlon.

Her selection comes on the back of a tremendous 2021 season which saw her claim a World Cup silver medal and two fourth places finishes, following that up with sixth in the World Cup final in Hungary.

That came on the back of World Cup victory in Egypt in 2020 – just weeks before the coronavirus pandemic hit.

And it looked as if restrictions would hamper her bid once more when all Pentathlon GB athletes were forced to withdraw from the UIPM World Championships in Cairo earlier this month.

But her previous results had done enough to earn her a trip to Japan, where she will be part of Team GB alongside Kate French, James Cooke and Joseph Chong.

The games begin on July 21 but the modern pentathlon doesn’t take place until later, the competition beginning on August 5.
