Dumfries accordion player celebrating as first CD paying tribute to Robert Burns sells out

Accordion player Lee McQueen is celebrating selling out his first CD in tribute to Robert Burns.

The Dumfries musician began planning his debut album late last year but due to the pandemic, he was unable to use a studio to record.

Lee, 37, said: “I have been playing folk music for about nine years now and I’ve played in ceilidhs since I was 18.

“And I began thinking that I would like to put out an album of Burns’ tunes and started at the end of November. But without being in the studio I had to learn things myself about putting it together.

“I got some help from friends who had brought out CDs and I started recording at home.

“I eventually had 100 made and they all sold before Burns Night which was a very pleasant surprise.

“There are 15 tracks on it, but I didn’t realise a CD could only take so many and one ended up being cut out at the end.

“It was one of my own tunes so it wasn’t so bad. It was really an added extra.”

Now Lee, from Troqueer, is working on requests from people who want to send musical messages to relatives during lockdown.

He added: “I have been recording some and just putting them up online with say a birthday greeting and that has been doing well on You Tube.

“My album is called ‘Burns and a’ That’ and originally it was planned to release it before Christmas, but learning how to record and put it together took a while.

“Then friends and family suggested I get it out in time for Burns Night and so that’s what happened and it has been a sell out.”
