Dumbo 2019 film: Trailer, release date and cast for Tim Burton’s new movie

Another Disney classic is headed for a live-action remake, with Dumbo set to arrive in cinemas in 2019.

The movie follows on from Beauty And The Beast and The Jungle Book, as well as the forthcoming Mary Poppins, and judging by the scale and spectacle of the trailer, the film could be the studio’s most ambitious reboot yet.

Based on the novel by Helen Aberson and Harold Pearl, Dumbo follows a young elephant with the extraordinary gift of flight.

The film is set to follow the plot of the original 1941 film pretty closely, with the elephant rising up the ranks to become the star attraction at the circus.

Fans have a little while to wait before the film is released, but rest assured — they’ll have seen about everything, when they see this elephant fly.

Here's everything they need to know.

Who is the Dumbo director?

At the helm: Tim Burton directs the Dumbo reboot

Tim Burton is directing the film, which marks his first project since 2016’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

The filmmaker certainly seems a good choice to bring the stranger elements of the story to the screen, as well as the lavish, larger-than-life choreography to the circus set-pieces.

Elsewhere, the screenplay is from Ehren Kruger, who previously worked on the The Ring, Ghost in the Shell and the Transformers films.

Who stars in Dumbo?

Circus star: Eva Green appears as a trapeze artist in the new film

There’s a host of impressive names attached to the Dumbo cast, including Colin Farrell. The actor plays Holt Farrier — a veteran and former circus star who is tasked with looking after Dumbo after being hired by Danny DeVito’s circus owner Max Medici.

Michael Keaton plays the exploitative entrepreneur V. A. Vandemere who purchases the circus to acquire Dumbo’s unique talents, with an eye to selling the act around the world.

Eva Green appears as French trapeze artist Colette Marchant and Alan Arkin as Wall Street business magnate J Griffin Remington.

Dumbo 2019 trailer

A new trailer for the film was recently revealed, and instantly seemed to have a big impact on its audience.

Commentators on social media burst into tears, as Dumbo is separated from her mother in the clip.

The trailer also seems to briefly reference the famous Elephants on Parade scene, with the marching pink elephants appearing while Dumbo is intoxicated.

We also see a glimpse into Dumbo’s story act, as the elephant is painted with clown makeup before becoming a star of the circus.

Dumbo release date

Dumbo is set to be released on March 29 2019.
