Dumbarton service to be held to remember lives lost to addiction

A special service to remember those who have been lost as a result of addiction is being held in Dumbarton tomorrow (Wednesday).

Starting at 7pm, the event at St Augustine’s on Dumbarton High Street is being held to honour people who have lost their battle with drugs or alcohol.

In conjunction with Alternatives community recovery project, the service is aimed at providing somewhere for families to come to share their grief and their memories.

Anne Dyer, depute manager at Alternatives said: “It’s a peaceful service, honouring those who we have known and loved and unfortunately they have not succeeded in their battle.

“It’s important for the families to know that they are supported and to have a place of peace.

“They don’t even need to say any words but they just look at each other and know what they are going through.

“The way the church is set up is beautiful. It’s really serene.”

Ghislaine Kennedy from the church said: “Every year, there’s a book that names go into and it’s getting fuller and fuller each year.

“It’s just awful but it’s a beautiful service.”
