Dumbarton new boy Carlo Pignatiello happy to be the Sons' odd jobs man

Carlo Pignatiello is happy to be Dumbarton’s odd jobs man - as long as it means he’s playing every week.

The versatile full-back, who can also play in midfield and on the wing, inked a season-long loan deal from Livingston on Saturday - and impressed on his debut against Clydebank just hours later.

After the game Carlo, who previously worked under manager Stevie Farrell at Stranraer, said that he was aiming to catch the eye of his parent club during his season with the Sons.

“It’s a massive season for me” he explained.

“Every season is a big season, but this one especially is one where I want to do well and impress back at Livingston.

“I was in and out of the team in the friendlies at Livingston, but I wanted to come and get regular gametime.

“I reached out to the manager at Livingston and said that I was keen to go on loan. He told me there was interest from Dumbarton.

“I’d obviously worked with the gaffer and Frank McKeown before at Stranraer, so I was happy to come and I’m delighted to be here.”

Having played three positions in 90 minutes on Saturday, Carlo added that he’s still not sure where he’s at his best.

He continued: “I don’t know where I’d say my best position is.

“I just try to play to the best of my abilities wherever the gaffer puts us; whether it’s right-back, centre-mid, wherever. I just try and do my best for the team and hopefully try and help us get some positive results this season.

“I’ve played midfield a lot, but it was the gaffer who made us a right-back at Stranraer. I played there a bit for Livingston as well, but he was the first manager who put me in there.

“He likes me as a right-back, he’s said that. But I’m still not sure where he’ll put me. Wherever it is though I’m happy to do a job for the team.”

Meanwhile manager Farrell was delighted to secure one of his top summer targets.

He added: “Carlo had a fantastic season for me at Stranraer. He played right-back and played really well.

“I know his qualities.

“I asked (Livingston manager) David Martindale as soon as I got the job if Carlo would become available. At that point he wasn’t, but I asked him to keep me posted.

“David phoned me last week and said there might be an opportunity so I was desperate to make it work.

“I kept a wee bit back in the budget hoping Carlo would be available.

“He can play a number of positions and he’s got great energy. He will be a good acquisition for us.”
