Dumbarton man who made chilling death threats called "despicable" by own lawyer

Dumbarton thug who threatened his neighbour’s partner has been told to “get a grip” after his own lawyer described his behaviour as despicable.

Stephen White shouted through a letterbox at his neighbour and his partner, sickeningly claiming that he knew someone who was going to “slash him and put him in the bin.”

White appeared before Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week where fiscal depute Sarah Healing told the court that at 2.55pm on December 29 last year White appeared at the door of his neighbour’s property on Kyle Terrace where he began shouting through the letterbox.

The neighbour asked White to leave and the shouting at the door attracted the neighbour’s partner’s attention.

Both men told the accused to remove himself or they would contact police however, at this point the accused shouted that someone he knew “is going to slash you and put you in the bin.”

Ms Healing said: “The complainer then said he was phoning the police at which stage the accused called him an “English b******” before leaving the area shouting.

“Police officers attended and around 3.30pm they traced the accused on Cardross Road.

“He was taken to Clydebank Police Office and cautioned and charged making no reply.”

White pled guilty to behaving in threatening and abusive manner on Kyle Terrace, Dumbarton on December 29 last year by adopting an aggressive attitude, attending the premises uninvited, shouting, swearing and uttering threats and racial remarks.

White also pled guilty to breaking his bail conditions in April 29 this year, which prohibited him from entering Kyle Terrace.

On a separate charge, White admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner in the Co-op in Clydebank on August 9, 2017 by shouting, swearing and threatening staff members there with violence.

The court was told he appeared to be under the influence and approached the butchers counter where he began shouting and swearing.

Ms Healing said: “He was told he was barred and asked to leave.

“He remained and became abusive towards a member of staff who refused to serve him.”

The threats involved him making a series of threats towards staff stating: “You’re getting it when you finish your shift.

“I know people who will kill you.”

As he spoke he made a gesture dragging his finger across his throat.

He then turned the threats towards two other members of staff stating: “You’re dead man.

“I’m going to get you killed.”

He was later arrested after police reviewed CCTV footage from the area.

Speaking on his behalf, White’s defence agent Judith Reid said: “His behaviour was absolutely despicable and that is accepted.

“He is clearly someone with fairly significant issues.”

When asked by Sheriff John Hamilton whether White actually knew people who would kill on his behalf, Ms Reid said: “It’s truly pathetic.

“ I have dealt with him for a number of years and there’s never been an inkling of any form of associates.”

Sheriff Hamilton said: “You have got to get a grip.

“If you mess up all bets are off and you will deserve the jail.

“Stop behaving in such a thoroughly antisocial fashion.

“You are so incompetent that you cannot help yourself.”
