Dumbarton man celebrates 100th birthday with special visitors and messages

A Dumbarton man celebrated his 100th birthday in style last week with live music, messages from two of his footballing heroes and even a radio show in his honour.

John Mitchell, a resident at Strathleven House Care Home, marked his big day on April 16 by enjoying an afternoon tea with wife Anne, fellow residents and staff at the Dumbarton home.

Local singers Alfie King and Jack Mullen then performed live in the garden of the care home, whilst River Radio dedicated their lunchtime show to the Kinning Park-born former draughtsman.

And Rangers fan John even received personalised messages from Ibrox heroes Ally McCoist and Arthur Numan, as well as from his many friends and family members.
