A group of litter pickers thought they had seen it all with the discovery of a four-foot python last year – until they came across a PROSTHETIC LEG on Sunday.
Zoe Weir, of Friends of Dumbarton Foreshore and Friends of Havoc Meadow, made the strange find while picking litter with her husband Iain McLaren.
The discarded plastic limb was discovered at Havoc meadow and comes more than a year after the group found a dead snake in a bag during a litter pick in Levengrove Park.
Zoe said: “It’s impossible to say how it got there, but we would love to know!
“We have kept it in case it can be of further use to someone.
“We think it belonged to an adult female as it doesn’t look long enough to have belonged to a man.
“I don’t know much about prosthetic legs but I think it’s quite an old type.
“Before it was a wildlife reserve, the meadow was a council landfill site between 1954 and 1980.
“It could be that this has been underground for some time and has come to the surface, perhaps by being unearthed by a dog.
“You never know though – there may be someone waking up with a hangover and missing something important!”
She added: “It’s not the first weird thing we’ve found and I’m sure it won’t be the last – it’s probably up there in the top three.”
The Friends are holding a conservation day tomorrow (Wednesday) and are urging residents to come along. It is part of the group’s hopes to have the meadow receive official nature reserve status. It’s being held between 11am and 4pm and they will meet at Havoc shore car park.
