A Dumbarton hotel and restaurant is planning a major overhaul including new holiday let accommodation with hot tubs.
Devilla Property Services has lodged an application for permission to make alterations to Dumbuck House Hotel.
The firm bought the property on Glasgow Road in January and has decided to make some major changes, stating that lack of demand in the function room “brought the business down”.
It plans to sacrifice 11 bedrooms to make way for two holiday let units, with the function room, bar and toilet facilities to be converted into two three-bedroom self contained units.
The planning application has been submitted to West Dunbartonshire Council and consists of alterations and two storey side and rear extensions to form additional rooms, manager accommodation and four holiday let units.
A supporting statement by Gateside Design states: “The original building has been extended many times over the years to provide additional bedrooms, bars and a large function suite. Internally the property has been kept in good condition but the exterior is tired.
“In January 2021 the owner had to give up trading and has sold the property to Devilla Property Services.
“The new owners see the potential to retain the bar and kitchen facilities and a few of the letting rooms however the previous owner found that the function room was not in demand and competition was particularly fierce and that side of the operation brought the business down.”
They said the plans were inspired by more people seeking self-contained accommodation in Scotland, adding: “The Covid pandemic has led people to review the way that they spend vacations. Demand throughout Scotland for self-contained holiday let units is high with supply not meeting demand.
“The new owners are excited about this hence the reason to sacrifice some of the letting rooms to holiday let.”
Hot tubs will be created and the statement adds noise from the hot tubs will be minimised by siting each tub within a deck structure and upon a concrete base.
