Dumbarton FC players help spread cheer with SPFL Festive Friends initiative

Dumbarton Football Club helped to spread a little cheer to those in need over the festive period.

The club were one of 37 taking part in the SPFL’s Festive Friends at Home programme scheme, which saw gift hampers delivered to the elderly and people experiencing social isolation.

West Dunbartonshire Community and Volunteering Services attended the C&G Systems Stadium on December 21 to collect 10 boxes filled with Sons merchandise as well as tea, coffee and biscuits.

Strikers Robert Jones and Jaime Wilson were there to hand over the boxes to Daren Borzynski and David Robertson from the service.

Following that, the players made the journey to Crosslet House Care Home in Dumbarton to hand over more boxes with Liz McInnes, George Drummond and JP McAllister receiving the gifts.

And on Wednesday, December 23 it was the turn of Football Memories to receive boxes from the club, with George McKay, and Euan and Colin Middlemass, from the project, picking up their gifts from defender Donald Morrison at the Rock.

Sons general manager Antonia Love said: “We are happy to do what we can to ensure that those less fortunate than ourselves can have a better Christmas.

“Everyone was extremely grateful and it really did show that during the festive season, it is sometimes better to give gifts than to receive.

“We would encourage any community groups who want to work with DFC to get in touch with us and we’ll be more than happy to help out where we can.”
