Dumbarton FC chiefs have thrown their weight behind calls for an emergency meeting between football bosses and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Last week SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster warned that continuation of a decision to ban fans from attending matches at all levels in Scotland would “sound the death knell for some of our best-loved clubs”.
From this month supporters outwith the top tier of restrictions in England will be allowed back into games, albeit in carefully regulated numbers and with strict social distancing.
And Sons club secretary Stephen Lynch has backed a similar move in Scotland.
He said: “Dumbarton Football Club fully support the SPFL’s request for an urgent meeting with the First Minister, to push the case for the safe return of fans.
“Jock Stein’s famous quote “football without fans is nothing” feels more poignant today than we can recall.
“We recognise this is a challenging time for political decision makers, but with the UK Government giving the green light for fans in England to attend live games, we believe it is appropriate to understand what is required to allow fans to return to games in Scotland.
“We therefore urge decision makers to work with the SPFL to find a solution that gets fans back in stadiums just as in England and elsewhere in Scotland in a regulated and safe environment.”
