Dumbarton Bridge and council offices light up in blue for NHS staff

Dumbarton Bridge and the council's headquarters will be lit up in blue every Thursday to show appreciation for key workers who are working during the Covid-19 crisis.

A council spokeswoman said: “We are extremely grateful to and proud of all of our hardworking key workers in West Dunbartonshire and beyond who are on the front line to keep us all safe every day.

“After requests from residents, we were only too happy to light up Old Dumbarton Bridge blue in their honour, and show our appreciation to them every Thursday.”

The bridge idea was mooted by resident Tom GArdiner, who took it to Jackie Baillie.

Ms Baillie MSP said: “This was a very thoughtful idea from Tom Gardiner and I thank him for the suggestion. The work that these individuals do in our health service, social care sector, supermarkets, police and many other areas of society is vital and ensures that we are both kept safe and have easy access to essential provisions.

“Saying thanks to these people is a wonderful gesture.”
