Dumbarton boss Stevie Farrell on recruitment drive ahead of "massive" East Fife game

Stevie Farrell hopes to complete a deal for a goalkeeper this week, ahead of a massive game for the Sons against fellow strugglers East Fife.

Five points separate the Fifers from Dumbarton at the foot of the League One table, and Faz admits his squad needs freshening up as he targets new additions.

He said: “This weekend is massive. Absolutely massive.

“Both East Fife and Clyde got beaten on Saturday, so the only saving grace is that not many teams down there are picking up points.

“Next week is huge though. We’ve got to be miles better than we were against Falkirk. We’re actively trying to bring in players.

“We were last week and we will again this week.

“The Premiership shutdown is making it slower, because until they start moving it’s the domino effect.

“We’ll be actively trying to bring in three or four players this month though. We need a real freshen up. If I can then I want to try and get them as soon as possible.

“I’m optimistic about getting players in for Saturday. I said that last week, and I was. We got Gregg Wylde in and we had a deal for a keeper that was pulled on Thursday. We’ve revisited that again.

“We’re also looking at the right-back area, centre-back area and the top end of the pitch. Those are the areas we’re looking to strengthen.”

One player who won't be in action against East Fife is Ryan Schiavone, with the striker returning to Hearts at the end of his loan deal - having scored once in 18 appearances.
