Dumbarton blaze: Cops probe deliberate car fire

Enquiries are continuing after a deliberate fire caused damage to vehicles within a West Dunbartonshire Council car park.

The deliberate blaze was set at around 12.45am yesterday (Monday) with firefighters attending to extinguish the flames.

The council is co-operating with the police in relation to the incident which happened within a car park at council offices in Bridge Street, Dumbarton.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received report of three cars on fire within a car park on Bridge Street in Dumbarton around 12.45am on Monday, July, 19.

“The fires were extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no-one was injured.

“The fires are being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the incident and Police Scotland are investigating and we are supporting them with their enquiries.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 12.36am on Monday, July 19 to reports of a car on fire at Bridge Street, Dumbarton.

“Operations Control mobilised one appliance and firefighters extinguished the fire which had spread to another vehicle.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
