Dumbarton attack: 23-year-old rushed to hospital after being seriously assaulted by three men

A 23-year-old was rushed to hospital after being seriously assaulted in Dumbarton.

The attack took place late last night when the victim was approached by three men on Stirling Road.

The three suspects - described as between 18 and 25 years old - fled towards Dumbarton town centre following the assault.

The 23-year-old man has been treated at the Royal Alexandra Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

Police say the motive for the attack is 'unknown' as officers encourage anyone with information to come forward.

A Police Scotland statement issued this afternoon advised: "Detectives are appealing for information following a serious assault in Dumbarton on Monday 28 June 2021.

"Around 11.45pm, a 23 year old man was on Stirling Road at its junction with Bellsmyre Avenue in Dumbarton when he was approached by three men and assaulted.

"The man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where medical staff describe his condition as stable.

"There is limited information on the three men – they are aged between 18 and 25 years of age.

"Following the incident, the three men made off towards Dumbarton Town Centre.

"Officers are checking relevant CCTV footage for any additional information on the suspects or the incident."

Detective Constable Geoff McKillop said: “The motive for this attack is unknown and a young man has been injured. I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to contact us. In particular, any motorists with dash cam devices, I would ask them to check their cameras and they may have captured an image which could assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0045 of 28 June 2021. Alternatively, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
