A big-hearted Scottish SPCA worker based at the charity’s Milton rehoming centre is set to take on a gruelling fundraising challenge this weekend.
Stuart Bissland is preparing to face David Goggin’s 4x4x48 challenge on March 6, which will see him run four miles, every four hours for 48 hours.
Looking ahead to the test of endurance, which will raise funds to help animals in the Scottish SPCA’s care, Stuart said: “I saw this challenge online and instantly wanted to take it on, although the rest of the team at the centre thought I was a bit mad when I told them about it.
“To complete the challenge I’ll need to get up very early, as the first run starts at 4am. From then on, I’ll be running four miles every four hours for a full 48 hours. The only chance I’ll get to sleep will be in between each four-mile run.
“To train for the challenge I’ve just been building up my running slowly over the last month or so. Every day I just tried to run a bit further than I had the previous day. I now go running about four or five times a week to train and I’ve even done trial runs in which I’ve run every four hours over a 24-hour period.
“Running started as a way to challenge myself and keep busy but I now really enjoy it.
“I’ve worked for the Scottish SPCA for just over two and a half years and it really is a cause close to my heart. The money I raise will be going directly to helping all the wonderful animals in our care and making a real difference to the lives of animals across Scotland.”
