Dulwich Hamlet’s FA Cup run has come to an end after they were comfortably beaten 4-1 by League Two outfit Carlisle United on Friday.
The National League South side reached the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in more than 20 years when they beat Havant & Waterlooville 2-1 in the fourth qualifying round last month.
A record 3,300 fans packed into Champion Hill to see the game, but there was to be no fairytale as Carlisle became the second team to book their spot in round two, joining Chichester City, who received a bye as a result of Bury’s expulsion.
Olufela Olomola got Carlisle off to the perfect start when volleying home inside ten minutes, before Harry McKirdy provided some breathing space eight minutes before half-time.
Christian Smith inspired hope of a comeback when he halved the deficit shortly after the break, but Mike Jones’s screamer quickly re-established the two-goal cushion, before McKirdy’s second sealed the result late on.
