Dulux apology for awkward Tottenham sponsorship tweets met by brilliant club response

Tottenham have enjoyed themselves with their response to an apology from Dulux over an awkward string of tweets after this morning's announcement of their new partnership.

Spurs announced on Thursday morning that Dulux would be their first ever official paint supplier. The Dulux dog was even given a behind-the-scenes tour of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the club's Hotspur Way training complex.

Then in the midst of the announcement, Dulux's own social media account chose to poke fun at their new partners.

When one Spurs fan asked whether the dog can play centre-back, the official UK Dulux account replied with an accompanying laughing emoji: "He might do a better job Chris."

Then when another asked about painting the trophy cabinet, the Dulux account replied with "You know this David" and an image of an empty trophy cabinet saying "for sale, unused trophy cabinet" and a phone number.

When another Twitter user suggested painting the "dusty trophy cabinet", the Dulux account replied: "Don't be silly, surfaces should be dust free before painting."

The tweets were later deleted and then on Thursday afternoon, Dulux issued an apology.

"We’re deeply sorry for the posts from Dulux this morning in response to the announcement of our relationship with @SpursOfficial," it read.

"These do not reflect how proud we are to be the Official Paint Supplier of the Club. We’re investigating what happened and apologise to all Spurs fans."

Tottenham's own social media account quote tweeted it with the response "we'll gloss over it this time".

They then mocked up an image, seen at the top of the page, with the Dulux dog's head on right-back Matt Doherty's shoulders, deleting a Photoshopped tweet from the paint company's account which had read "I love Arsenal forever and ever and ever", in a throwback to the Irishman's own video after he joined.
