Dull and damp day with wintry showers forecast

It's turning wet and windy today and it will stay wintry for a few days, according to the Met Office.

On Tuesday, December 27, there will be heavy rain with coastal gales in the afternoon. However temperatures will remain fairly warm, with highs between 9C and 11C.

According forecasters, tomorrow any early brightness will be short-lived as thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain move north during the morning. It will then stay generally wet during the afternoon.

From Thursday onwards the forecast will be changeable, with generally unsettled. There will be periods of rain, heavy at times, interspersed by brighter and more showery spells.

Some rain showers may turn wintry over any higher ground. The BBC outlook from Thursday to Saturday reads: "Thursday will have a mix of bright spells and a few blustery showers drifting in from the west.

"Friday morning looks to start very windy and wet, with heavy rain, but it may turn drier and brighter in the afternoon. Saturday is expected to see another low pressure system arrive from the south, bringing mostly cloudy skies and frequent outbreaks of rain."
