Duleep Trophy Final: Yashasvi Jaiswal turns the tide for West Zone with 209 not out

COIMBATORE: High temperature and strong breeze were symbolic of West Zone’s form here on Friday. The team turned on the heat against South Zone and blew away the bowlers with power hitting.

On the third day of the Duleep Trophy final here on Friday, Yashasvi Jaiswal (209 not out), scored his second stroke-filled double century in as many weeks and emerged the showstopper of West Zone’s dominant show.

At stumps, West Zone bounced back to compile 376/3 after having conceded the first innings lead. With two days to go, they are ahead by 319 runs.

Jaiswal and Priyank Panchal (40) got West off to a sublime start, wiping out the 57 runs deficit in 67 balls. Sai Kishore (2/100) broke the 110-run opening partnership when Panchal chipped to mid-wicket which Gowtham leaped in the air to hold on to.

While Ajinkya Rahane (15) was trapped in front by Gowtham, Shreyas Iyer (71) ensured the momentum did not shift in South’s favour.

Earlier, West needed just 13 deliveries to bowl out South for the addition of just nine runs. Chintan Gaja (2/33) claimed two wickets while Jaydev Unadkat finished with a four-wicket haul.
