Duke University’s Marques Bolden draws predraft interest from Celtics

Per SNY TV’s Ian Begley, the Boston Celtics will host a predraft workout for Duke Blue Devils big man Marques Bolden ahead of the 2019 NBA Draft. Bolden has also drawn predraft interest from the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers.

One of the less heralded players on Duke’s roster, Bolden just finished his third season with the Blue Devils and averaged 5.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 57.9 percent from the field. A springy big man, Bolden’s best attribute has been his ability to alter shots around the rim and defend them along the perimeter as well.

However, even at 6-foot-11 and 250 pounds, Bolden isn’t as sturdy a big man as other players his size are. His lack of scoring ability, whether on the interior it perimeter is also a concern for the team that drafts him as he’s a player that’s rather easy to defend.

Should he work on his core strength and physical conditioning, he could be a solid defensive big man for years to come. Nonetheless, there are going to be better center prospects on the draft and Boston may be better off using one of their draft picks on another prospect, unless center Aron Baynes opts not to return to the Celtics.
