Duke Street closed after cyclist seriously injured in crash

Duke Street was closed overnight after a cyclist was seriously injured in a crash.

Emergency services raced to the scene close to the junction of Duke Street and High Street following the collision between the cyclist and a Vauxhall Adam, shortly after 10.30pm.

The 46-year-old man was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and is described as being in a 'serious, but stable' condition. The driver of the car wasn't injured.

It was confirmed at 7am this morning the road had re-opened and police have now launched an investigation into the crash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed to Glasgow Live:   "Around 10.35 pm on Monday, 14 September, 2020, police were called to a road crash involving a cyclist and a Vauxhall Adam car on Duke Street, near to High Street, Glasgow.

"The 46-year-old cyclist was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow where he remains for treatment.  Medical staff describe his condition as serious but stable.

"The driver of the Vauxhall Adam was not injured. "Enquiries in to the collision are continuing."

Late last night, Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management team (TRAFFCOM) advised: "Due to a road traffic collision, Duke Street at the junction of High Street is closed to all traffic until further notice.  Emergency Services are in attendance and road users should follow Police direction."
