Duke Street attack - young man left with serious head injury in attempted murder bid

Police are treating a serious assault which left a young man with a serious head injury as attempted murder.

The victim, 21, was with a friend in Duke Street, near the Duchess Bar, around 12.10am on Friday, March 15.

The pair met three other men on the busy east end street and two of them got into a fight. The 21-year-old was rushed to the Royal Infirmary with a serious head injury. He has since been released.

Police Scotland officers are on the hunt for a white suspect, aged 20-25 with short, dark hair. He was wearing a grey Nike hoodie at the time.

Cops are treating the incident as attempted murder, and are checking CCTV footage for any additional info.

Detective Constable Cameron Wilson said: “There are several bars and takeaways in this area and it’s generally pretty busy with pedestrians and traffic. From enquiries carried out so far there were several members of the public in the area around the time of the incident and I would appeal to them to contact us.

“Someone may have seen the group of men prior to the incident taking place or they may have witnessed the attack, please, if anyone has any information, do contact us.”
