The Duke Blue Devils’ bubble is probably popped, thanks to COVID-19. The Blue Devils pulled out of the ACC tournament on Thursday after a positive COVID-19 test from someone within the program, USA TODAY reports.
Because of that positive test, they’re out of the ACC tournament. And because they’re out, they won’t have a shot at making the NCAA tournament.
Duke was considered a team on the bubble that needed to have a good showing in its conference tournament to make the big dance. The Blue Devils won’t even get that chance now and it’s not even because of basketball — it’s because of the pandemic.
This is awful for Duke. But, unfortunately, this might just be a grim early look at how complicated the bigger NCAA tournament can get.
