Duke of Wellington has a new neighbour as Oor Wullie rocks up sporting a cone on his coupon

Glasgow is in the midst of an 'Oor Wullie' invasion as statues of Scotland's favourite son have been popping up in and around the city at spots such as Silverburn and Buchanan Galleries.

Part of Oor Wullie's BIG Bucket Trail – a nationwide public art trail which is raising vital funds for Scotland's children's hospital charities, the sculptures of the cheeky comic will be in place for 11 weeks in the city and across the country.

And of all the statues that have sprung up in the city, none seem to have blended in to their surroundings more than that placed outside the GoMA alongside the Duke of Wellington statue.

Complete with a traffic cone on his coupon, the colourful statue has Wullie Russell with his trademark spiky hair and dungarees on his upturned bucket - complete with depictions of Glasgow landmarks such as the Finnieston Cran', the Armadillo and the Toolbooth Steeple.

Funds raised though the trail will go to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and the ARCHIE Foundation, helping children in hospitals across Scotland.

And speaking of cones, we reported earlier today how the current Duke of Wellington has been left scratching his head over Glasgow's iconic cone head statue.
